In the Gospel of Mark, chapter 15, we read that ‘Joseph of Arimathea … went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.’ The Gospels also tell us that, ‘Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders.’
Joseph wasn’t some weirdo who collected corpses! He wanted to honour Jesus, and the best way he thought he could do that was by giving Jesus a burial with all the markings of royalty. He anointed Jesus’s body with expensive oils, carefully wrapped it, and placed it in a tomb that Joseph had earmarked for himself.
Joseph, I believe, is a man of courage. He boldly approached the local Roman leader and asked for the body of Christ. He was no longer happy, it seems, to keep secret his affiliation. His reputation and his standing in his community no longer mattered. Joseph had witnessed the ultimate sacrifice, and he could no longer hide his faith.
Where are you sharing your faith? Where are you demonstrating your allegiance to King Jesus?
What’s stopping you?
