But Christ proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly! (Romans 5:8)
Intense, impassioned, ardent, fervent, fervid, zealous, heartfelt, eager, excited! These are just a few more words to help us understand how passionately God loves us. If you’re a good parent you’ll know what I mean if you’re ever asked how much you love your child and you find you just can’t put it into words. Sometimes a never-ending hug is best we can come up with.
God loves us so much that He didn’t just have people prophecy about it or have people write about it, He took action. He didn’t use words to demonstrate His love, but died in our place with no expectation that His love would be reciprocated or even understood.
This Christmas, as we see love written on every Christmas card and love expressed through the giving and receiving of gifts, I hope that we can spend some time considering the greatest act of love and Greatest Gift ever given.
