Advent, Day 21 – Disciples

That evening, the disciples gathered together. And because they were afraid of reprisals from the Jewish leaders, they had locked the doors to the place where they met. But suddenly Jesus appeared among them and said, “Peace to you!” Then he showed them the wounds of his hands and his side – they were overjoyed to see the Lord with their own eyes!

Jesus repeated his greeting, “Peace to you!” And he told them, “Just as the Father has sent me, I’m now sending you.” Then, taking a deep breath, he blew on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit”. (John 20:19-22)

Sometimes seeing really is believing. It’s not enough to be told something, but you have to see and experience it for yourself for it to be true. When we see it and when we experience it everything changes. No longer can we think, well that was nice for them, or impactful for them, or life changing for them – the narrative changes when we are confronted with the truth of what we might be seeking.

I pray that this Christmas, the Spirit of Jesus is tangible and unavoidable for you all. I pray that we not only hear or read the stories of who Christ was but we understand who He is because His is all alive and active in our lives, breathing His Spirit on us daily.
